Parkinson’s advocate gets well deserved recognition

AMBASSADOR: Dr Geoffrey Gartside is passionate about making local residents aware of the affects of Parkinson's disease.

LOCAL resident Dr Geoffrey Gartside was recently awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by Parkinson’s Victoria for his commitment to raising awareness of Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson’s Plus syndromes.

Since being diagnosed with one of the Parkinson’s Plus syndromes five years ago, Dr Gartside has been tirelessly working to ensure that the Mansfield community has a sound knowledge about Parkinson’s Disease and the supports available to people affected by Parkinson’s Disease, their families and carers.

For the past two years Dr Gartside has led the annual walk for Parkinson’s and is an instrumental part of the Mansfield Living With Parkinson’s Support Group.

The support group meets on the second Tuesday of each month between 12.15 -2pm, at the Buckland Rooms, Erril Street.

The group is affiliated with Parkinson’s Victoria, and is supported by Community Health Nurse Deb Smith, at the Mansfield Primary Care Centre.

For further information call Ms Smith on 57758800; alternatively Parkinson’s Victoria can be accessed on 1800 644189.
