Skatepark behaviour calls for respect

LISTEN UP: Sergeant Nathan Pelling of Mansfield police talks to schoolchildren on skatepark behaviour.

MANSFIELD schoolchildren and their teachers gathered at the local skatepark on Wednesday for a community meeting to talk about appropriate behaviour at the facility.

Kids from St Mary’s, Steiner School and both Mansfield primary and secondary schools were all in attendance.

Sergeant Nathan Pelling of Mansfield police addressed the crowd telling the kids while they were allowed to have fun, there are laws and rules in place that need to be adhered to.

The impacts of bullying was discussed and Sgt Pelling urged kids to respect each other.

“What you think might be a little bit of light hearted fun, can really hurt people,” Sgt Pelling said.

He also reminded the group about the importance of wearing helmets and using the skatepark safely.
