Mansfield celebrates 65 years of citizenship

NEW CITIZENS: Former Mansfield Shire mayor, Tom Ingpen, presents the Clark family with their Citizenship Certificates during the 2011 Australia Day celebrations

AUSTRALIA’S newest citizens will take centre stage in Mansfield when it joins towns and regions around the nation to celebrate Australia Day and mark 65 years of Australian citizenship.

Two people from New Zealand and the United Kingdom will become Australian citizens at a special citizenship ceremony being conducted as part of our Australia Day celebrations.

The celebrations are being held at the median strip, High Street, Mansfield on January 26 from 9am.

Mayor Ray Robinson said the occasion was not only a chance to celebrate what unites Australians on Australia Day but also to acknowledge the importance of citizenship in Australia.

“Australia Day is always a special day for Australians and with this year’s events also marking the 65th year of Australian citizenship there has never been a better time to celebrate the spirit and diversity of our country,” he said.
