Gerran wins his third tour

...and now ranked number one road rider in the world

KISSES ALL ROUND: Mansfield born cyclist Simon Gerrans gets plaudits after winning his third Tour Down Under by one second from compatriot Cadel Evans.

MANSFIELD born cyclist Simon Gerrans became the first three-time winner of the Santos Tour Down Under, in front of a home crowd in Adelaide on Australia Day.

The tour was the tale of two hills.

On the famed Corkscrew, fellow Australian cyclist and Tour de France winner, Cadel Evans (BMC) took advantage of an out of place Gerrans to take the ochre jersey from him and lead by 12 seconds.

In stage 4, Gerrans returned the favor on the Willunga Hill to take the ochre jersey into the final leg.

Gerrans went into that final stage with a lead of just one second over Evans and finished on the final podium with the same narrow margin.
