A MOVE of race dates, a Tenors on the Turf picnic concert, and further updating of facilities will keep the Mansfield District Race Club on its toes and moving forward during the coming months.
Members of the current committee have been brainstorming ideas for improvements, one of which has been how to get more people to a December race meeting.
The ‘Boxing Day’ meeting held on the Saturday after Christmas struggles to get support – both in workers and patrons.
So the committee decided to apply to Country Racing Victoria for a change of date and believe they have secured December 7 – a Sunday meeting.
Committee members believe a pre-Christmas meeting would be child friendly, the same as the post-Christmas race day and retaining a family oriented atmosphere.
“This will help us promote the family atmosphere and offer corporate spaces for Christmas end-of-year functions while being at the races,” club secretary Susan Kinloch told the Courier this week.
