Prep student numbers growing

IT’S OK MUM: New St Mary’s Primary School prep Stella Weingott consoled her sad mother Danielle as she headed to class for the first day of school last Wednesday. More than 100 prep children started their educational journey across the district last week and there appeared to be more sad mums than there were kids. PHOTO: Peter Hunt

A RECORD number of preps began their first year of school with more than 100 new students tottering into classrooms for the first time.

Saint Mary’s Primary School preps were the first to begin the year, with anxious yet excited parents dropping them off at the school gates early in the morning.

Some 46 new preps across three classrooms will see the student numbers at St Mary’s swell to a total of 261 pupils.

Delighted to see the school going from strength to strength, Principal Adrian Cheer said he was looking forward to starting the new school year.

“Perhaps the most exciting thing this year will be seeing the students use the brand new library and technology centre.”

Finished late last year, the new centre will provide an information one stop shop for St Mary’s pupils.
