Breakthrough for Dermotts in Tasmania

MANSFIELD motor sport enthusiasts, Brian and Linda Dermott, finally broke through after six trips to Targa Tasmania, which has seen them named the Mansfield Courier/Rotary Sportsperson of the Year, May nominee for 2014.

After three frustrating years, the Mansfield Motorsport 1971 Holden Torana XU1 recorded the best ever result in the Targa Tasmania rally.

Local drivers Brian and Linda Dermott finished this year’s event well, winning class LMS E, coming second in Category 4 for limited modified cars built between 1967 and 1971, and 16th outright in the Targa Tasmania Classic.

The ‘Made in Mansfield’ Kermit Green Torana is familiar to local residents from Targa High Country.

Engineered by Andrew Lawry and driven by veteran local couple Brian and Linda, the team this year included Mook Herridge of Total Vehicle Solutions in Monkey Gully Road
Targa Tasmania is the international motor sport marathon, which started the sport of tarmac rallying 23 years ago.
