THE Mansfield Eagles took another step to the wooden spoon last Saturday when they fell to the Shepparton Bears by 20 points at Deakin Reserve.

Their win over a hapless Mansfield side has left the Eagles with only Seymour below them on the ladder, with the Bears on equal points and only four percentage points behind.

Senior coach Simon Dolling had stressed before the game that a good start was necessary for the Eagles.

The seniors started much better than against Echuca and were only down by nine points at the first break.

However, it was the Bears’ second quarter effort of four goals against a strong wind that set up the win.

Despite this, Mansfield was only 20 points behind at the long break, but a 13 points to one point third term, left the Eagles with a mountain to climb in the last quarter.
