ROWAN Swaney might not be a name on everyone’s lips around Mansfield, but his influence behind the scenes is quite strong.

Rowan is chair of the Mansfield and District Hospital Board, chair of the hospital’s Medical Consultative Committee and is also a member of the Community Liaison Committee.

Rowan was born in Melbourne in 1950 and completed his schooling at Scotch College, one of the oldest schools in Australia.

“At school my career interests were farming or education,” he said.

“After my matriculation I headed to Mercer House, a small private teachers’ college, where I completed my primary school teacher training.

“At its conclusion, I headed back to Scotch for two years as a junior school teacher.”

During this time, Rowan also began his Bachelor of Arts at La Trobe University, before teaching primary at Kingswood College at Box Hill.
