ELAINE Eisner was born and has lived most of her life in Mansfield.

Her father, Philip Whittaker, first came here in 1918 with the Bank of New South Wales and then returned in 1934.

Elaine was born in 1935.

“After a year or so we moved to Geelong, then Tatura, Terang and Bairnsdale, before my father returned to Mansfield as manager of the bank,” Elaine recounted.

“I went to primary school in different towns and high school in Bairnsdale, before finishing as a boarder at Morongo Girls College in Geelong, now the site of Kardinia International College.”

Elaine’s career dream at school was to be a pharmacist.
