So close – but not quite

HEAD BUTT: Bonnie Doon’s Scott Gross comes close to getting a head butt in the stomach as he tries to stop his Whorouly opposition from getting away with the ball. Andrew Walker watches closely before coming in to lend a hand. PHOTO: Pam Zierk-Mahoney

BONNIE Doon footballers hosted Whorouly last weekend in a game that was expected to be even, given the ladder positions of fourth and fifth respectively, and the fact that the Bombers won by a low margin in the first game of the year.

Al Magee continued his good form, kicking three goals in slippery conditions.

Jake Mullins has been a terrific addition and played a brilliant game again.

Doon’s forward line put on tough pressure all day, with Paul Mahoney, Beau Smith, Wayne Lockhart, Mark Ryan and Dannie Heazelwood working hard.

Daniel Godsmark was a workhorse all day, along with Scotty Gross.

It was fantastic to have Aoidh Doyle back from Ireland and he and Jordan Arbuthnot were great down back, along with Matt Zanini, Jake Darby and Alex Kellalea.
