Skate park development process to move ahead

FOR ALL AGES: Consideration will be given to establishing two skate park venues - the current one for younger users and a more advanced park for the more experienced and adventurous riders.

MANSFIELD Shire Council last week voted to proceed with the further site scoping and assessment works for the skate park – youth hub redevelopment community engagement process.

Council also agreed to formally submit an application to the Victorian Government’s Sport and Recreation 2015-16 Community Facility Fund for $100,000 to contribute to the construction of a skate park in Mansfield.

An expression of interest had already been submitted and accepted.

Community services manager Louise Knoll told council that during the consultation period it was found the present skate park does not address the needs for youth and/or families.

The project meets some of the criteria that was proposed in the Mansfield Community Gathering Place Project – Mansfield Recreation Reserve Redevelopment Stage 4.

Outcomes of the project could see the reserve appropriately host a wide range of activities including festivals, outdoor concerts, markets, sporting events, social gatherings and Neighborhood Safer Place functions.
