THE prospects of a new secondary school in Mansfield are increasing.

While Mansfield has a variety of primary school choices, so far there has been limited secondary options that do not involve travel.

For some time now, at the invitation of the Mansfield Parish, FCJ College, Benalla has been in discussion with St Mary’s Primary School and Mansfield Catholic Parish regarding an FCJ College St Mary’s years 7/8 campus at Mansfield.

Following approval from the Catholic Education authorities of Melbourne and Sandhurst to conduct a formal feasibility study, FCJ is now seeking to gauge the level of interest from parents in Mansfield and surrounding districts.

Mansfield parish priest, Father Joe O’Shea, said “a great opportunity has become a real possibility”.

“The opportunity is to provide Catholic secondary education for years 7/8 here in Mansfield,” he said.
