DEVELOPMENT across the Mansfield Shire will be easier now that council has adopted its Domestic Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP).
The plan’s adoption is expected to make planning permits and subdivision applications clearer and quicker, while still taking into account the State Government’s 1:40ha ruling on potable water catchment areas.
Had council not adopted the DWMP the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between council and Goulburn Murray Water (GMW) would have expired, and GMW would have immediately commenced applying the one dwelling per 40ha rule.
The (MoU) has enabled consideration (and approval) of applications which might otherwise have been rejected by GMW.
Paramount amongst ongoing actions is the need to implement a regime of septic system inspections and continuous improvement in the performance standards of such systems.
To do this council must implement an extensive and ongoing inspection program to ensure all on-site systems are maintained and operating effectively.
