CONGRATULATIONS: It was well done from more than 100 residents and visitors who joined Mansfield branch of Red Cross members in celebrating 100 years’ service to the district, and the dedication of a commemorative rose garden at the Botanic Park on Sunday. PHOTO: Pam Zierk-Mahoney

IT was a day of celebration, relaxation, music, games and lots of chatting for the Mansfield branch of Red Cross 100th birthday on Sunday.

A community barbecue luncheon was held at the Botanic Park where more than 100 people attended.

Included in the celebrations was the official dedication of the Red Cross garden by Mansfield Shire councillor Marg Attley.

Cr Attley spoke of the work done by Red Cross, both locally and further afield.

She made special mention of the Mansfield Courier’s support given to the Red Cross over the past 100 years, reading a letter to the editor which was published in 1940 at the commencement of WWII.

Cr Attley also praised the volunteers who work tirelessly for the organisation, including Marg Adcock who has held the position of president of the branch for more than 30 years, since 1977.
