Students attend agriculture camp

AGRICULTURE FIRST HAND: Students from the Melbourne University camp at Dookie Agricultural College gathered recently to learn of options and opportunities in agriculture.

STUDENTS from Mansfield Secondary College recently spent time at a three day camp at Dookie Agricultural College run by Melbourne University.

These students – among the 55 who attended – had to apply for a position at the camp, showing interest in agriculture and the environment.

All 10 MSC students received scholarships to pay for the camp, and all but two of these had completed Agribusiness earlier in year 9.

The purpose of the camp was to encourage tertiary participation in agriculture of students in the Hume region, and show students how subjects studied at school link to university studies and careers in the fields of agriculture, environment and Landcare.

At the camp, they had opportunity to speak to lecturers and current students, as well as representatives from industry.

They also had the chance to experience first-hand the latest technologies in the area.
