IN days gone by, Stephen Marks would have been known as the local grocer.
He is a passionate man – passionate about his town, his family’s footprint here, and also about sport.
Stephen’s work is a generational thing – his grandfather bought the supermarket here in 1953, his father John and Uncle Ken took over its management from him, and that role passed to Stephen and his cousin Greg around 10 years ago.
Born in 1962, Stephen was schooled at St Mary’s Primary School and at the local high school up to year 9.
He then boarded at Assumption College, Kilmore for years 10 to 12.
“The Marist Brothers there were pretty tough,” Stephen recalled.
“I had what was described as ‘a fun loving personality’, so I suspect that was why I was sent there,” he laughed.
