SOME might consider Brian Dixon to be a ‘fitness freak’ but that is not so – he is just compelling when it comes to ageing gracefully, healthily and staying active.
Brian belies his 78 years, looking much younger, and maintains that keeping healthy in body also helps to keep active in mind.
Born in 1936, Brian grew up in St Kilda.
He recalls that as a youngster he was not all that active when it came to sport, but looking back he says he must have been fairly fit as he would push his totally paralysed father around in his wheelchair and thought nothing of it.
“I would come home from school and push dad down to the shopping centre some two miles away – mostly downhill.
“We would do the shopping, and loaded with shopping bags on the back of the wheelchair, I would then push him back uphill all the way home,” Brian said.
