THE Mansfield Golf Club Championships for men commenced Saturday and all the intrigue and expectations began.

Standing on the first tee, ex tour player now social player Dean Grining hit a perfect iron middle fairway fade while all those in admiration looked on.

Following him, 20-year-old Brandon Kay replicated a perfect iron to centre fairway and perfect position.

Such was his shot under expectation and pressure it set the tone for the day, as Kay shot 68 and followed on Sunday with 77 to lead the championship by five strokes.

Grining hadn’t picked up a club for some months until the day before, but to witness his shot-making and history of success anything can happen so stay tuned, as with two rounds to go, it is golf after all, where things can change in a single stroke.

Youth continued to shine as 13-year-old Ollie Shaw is dominating B grade with an 81-77 first half.
