MANSFIELD District Racing Club (MDRC) is looking forward to a busy season, and has a full committee on board following the annual general meeting on October 8.
Held at the members’ clubrooms, president Gary Hubbard presented his president’s report, outlining a successful 12 months of operation.
Thanking his committee, Mr Hubbard made special mention of Tess Long and Marion Dowling who stepped down during the year, saying “both were prime movers in the restructure of the club and we all owe them a debt of gratitude for their hard work and perseverance at a very difficult time in the club’s history”.
Highlights for the year included returning the club to a sound financial footing, noting success in obtaining infrastructure and marketing grants, maintenance of facilities such as electrification of the track watering system, painting of most of the buildings on track and improvements to the toilets.
Initiatives in place for upcoming events include relocation of the return to scale area for better public viewing, and a traffic management plan for Cup Day on November 4 to improve safety.
The success of Tenors on the Turf in March and its return again next March was well received, and the change of date for the Mansfield Cup meeting to December 7 was explained to members, and activities for the day outlined, including a visit by the CUB Clydesdales.
