ROUND SHE GOES: Mercia Nelson from Merrijig glides around Mandy Kynnersley (Pink Panthers) as Alicia Foster watches on.

ROUND three of women’s basketball started with a bang, or not.

Miscellaneous and the Mighty Meerkats both struggled to score in the first half as they battled the heat, and with no subs for either team, everyone ran out of steam early on.

Janine Polkinghorne from Miscellaneous was the first and only player to score for the first 15 minutes of the game, and at half time the score was a meagre 2 to 4, Meerkats’ way.

In the second half, the initial shock of heat exhaustion had worn off and Meerkats found their rhythm as Marella Verbeeten shot fantastically for Meerkats, extending their lead.

Miscellaneous’ Britney “Flo-Jo” Allen was impossible to catch as she darted around the court, flaunting her youth and speed.

Carol Miller’s experience lifted Miscellaneous but in the end, the sheer brilliance of Steph Adams was too much for Miscellaneous to compete with, Meerkats meowing their way to their first win for the season, 15 to 4.
