New mayor sets out challenges, wish list

NEW MAYOR: Cr Marg Attley (front) was elected as Mansfield Shire mayor for the coming 12 months with Cr Paul Sladdin elected at deputy mayor.

COUNCILLOR Marg Attley has been elected unopposed as Mansfield Shire Council’s new mayor for the next 12 months.

Cr Attley has represented the residents of the Tolmie Ward for the past nine years and this will be her second term as mayor, the first being in 2008.

In her acceptance speech at council’s November meeting last Tuesday, she encouraged residents to become more involved in local government, to take part in the processes of consultation and have a strong voice, particularly our young people.

Cr Attley acknowledged women in local government stating that this year commemorated the centenary of women having the right to vote and stand for council.

She said she felt honored in being elected mayor of Mansfield Council in this year and acknowledged the women who have been elected to councils across Victoria in this 100 years’ commemoration.

“I commit to serving all people of the shire with care, vision, enthusiasm and fairness,” Cr Attley said.
