150 years celebrated at Merton

THEY’RE OFF AND RACING: Racing down the Merton Amatuer Race Club’s home straight were this group of keen thoroughbred children all running into the New Year and celebrating 150 years of racing at Merton.

WITH more than 2000 visitors to the New Year’s Day Merton races there is little wonder the Fashions on the Field quests were hotly contested.

Judges Amanda Catanach and Bev Day had 12 sections to judge starting from the youngest section 0-4 years and finishing with the novelty section which was again won by the defending winners of last year.

Celebrating 150 years of racing at Merton, the club went all out to make this the best ever country picnic meeting and family day – and they certainly succeeded.

The major sponsor of the meeting, including the Merton Cup and the Fashions on the Field was Catanach’s Jewellers.
