SPORT is not just about what happens on the field.
Mansfield under 16 cricketer, Patrick Marks, had a great month on the field, but also one of respect, which has seen him named the Mansfield Courier/Rotary Sportsperson of the Year, December nominee for 2014.
At the beginning of December, Patrick showed the essence of what it takes to be a sportsperson.
Day one of a two day match saw the Mansfield under 16s travel to Wangaratta to play Bruck Cricket Club.
However, more important than the game were the tributes paid to the late Phil Hughes.
Two of the junior cricketers retired unbeaten on 63 runs to match the final innings of a batting hero.
While the temptation to go on and try to record triple figures is usually overwhelming, Mansfield under 16 captain Patrick Marks said 63 was the only target he and teammate Joel Sanford were chasing.
