THE Delatite First XI has conclusively put its mark as the major finals contender in this season’s Cleary Shield competition of BDCA cricket.
The strong Delatite combination easily accounted for Warrenbayne in the third and final Twenty20 round last Saturday passing them for the loss of only five wickets.
Warrenbayne won the toss and elected to bat, however, some excellent fielding and tight bowling from the relatively young Delatite side restricted them to just 7/101 after the allocated 20 overs.
Three run outs coming from Lachie Christopher, Matt Stevenson and James Bartlett added to the woes of Warrenbayne whose top scorer was 15 year-old Wade King with 23 not out.
The best of the Delatite bowlers was Tyler Smith with 2/14 and one wicket apiece to Rumesh Ranasinghe (1/14) and a spirited Ken Cousins who mesmerised the opposition batsmen with 1/4 from his single over of accurate medium-pacers.
As has been the situation throughout the season, most of the top order of batsmen contributed in Delatite’s run chase.
