Fricke retains under 21 speedway title

TRIFECTA: On the podium after the Australian under 21 title were (from left) Brady Kurtz third, Max Fricke first, Jack Holder second and Jake Allen fourth.

LOCAL 18 year old Max Fricke put in a fantastic performance on Saturday to win his third consecutive under 21 Australian Speedway Title at Kurri Kurri in NSW.

With tensions high, the race was eventually run after three restarts.

A rider came down in the first corner at the first attempt and all four riders were allowed back to restart.

On the second attempt, Fricke and Jake Allen from Queensland were in the lead when Allen pushed Fricke wide into the fence resulting in a crash that totally destroyed Fricke’s bike.

Allen was subsequently excluded from the restart.

Fricke’s team was then under extreme pressure to get his spare bike ready to race but Fricke put in a terrific performance to get the gate and hold off the other competitors to take the win.

“Retaining this title was a major focus of mine over the summer period,” he said.
