HIS name is Stephen Watson, and he is Mansfield’s weather man.
Never mind your Rob Gells, Daniel Gibson or Giaan Rooney, all who receive a tidy sum for their role in broadcasting the weather – Steve does his report for free.
Nestled in the hills off Howe’s Creek Road there is a little weather station that records the current conditions, and updates them accordingly, every 60 seconds.
Any internet or Smartphone user can then access these records, day or night, and indeed they do – with Steve’s site reporting almost one million hits per month.
“I set it up in 2002, after I got it as a gift,” he explained.
“It was going to just be a hobby, but it went from there.”
