Campers kicked out of The Pines

AROUND 40 campers were evicted from The Pines camping area on Sunday morning over the Australia Day weekend (January 25), Mansfield police reported last week.

Local police responded to calls received from concerned families camping in the area on the Saturday night reporting rowdy drunken behavior, letting off fireworks, and throwing accelerants into campfires.

Police attended on the Saturday night and evicted a large number of people as a result on Sunday morning, with Senior Sergeant Lyn Holland saying some charges may be laid as a result.

The police trail bike patrol also caught two offenders riding while under the influence of drugs.

Otherwise, “everyone was well behaved over the long weekend,” Snr Sgt Holland said.

Two medical emergencies that police attended were a wake-boarding accident at Lake Nillahcootie, where one person was treated by paramedics, while on the Monday evening at Merton, a 38-year-old male was airlifted to hospital following a quad-bike accident on private property.
