THE Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove, and his wife, Lady Cosgrove, will visit Mansfield next Tuesday, February 17 during which they will attend a civic reception in their honor.
Cathy McGowan (MHR, Indi) has arranged a tour of the Indi electorate for Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove who will also be visiting Wangaratta, Benalla and Murrindindi over a two day period.
“Mansfield Shire Council was offered the opportunity to host Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove at a luncheon and the opportunity to showcase some of what Mansfield has to offer was too good to refuse,” said mayor Marg Attley.
“We will be inviting a wide cross section of the community to attend the reception and this will include a strong contingent of our young people and school student representatives as we have been advised that Sir Peter is particularly interested in some of the successful programs we have operating in support of Mansfield’s young people.”
Following the luncheon, council will be taking Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove on a tour of some of the town’s facilities including Cafe Connect, the Mansfield Armchair Cinema, where they will be shown a screening of “The Kitchen” at which the young actors and film-makers who created and starred in this short film will share their reflections about the experience.
This will be followed by a visit to the Mansfield Secondary College to inspect and hear about the establishment of the Community Garden which was developed in conjunction with students from college.
