Roundabout to lift intersection safety

Mansfield Shire Council will upgrade the intersection of High and Chenery streets and Mansfield-Whitfield Road with the inclusion of a proposed roundabout.

Council’s engineering officers are working towards addressing community concerns in relation to the current configuration of the intersection at the northern end of Chenery Street where it intersects with High Street and the Mansfield-Whitfield Road.

Requests to alter the intersection due to safety concerns and regular traffic near misses have resulted in council submitting designs to VicRoads to propose the construction of a roundabout in this location to ensure a safer, more fluent traffic flow.

“VicRoads has agreed to provide funding for the project with works anticipated to commence mid to late March,” council’s chief executive officer David Roff said.

The aim is to cause as little disruption as possible during the construction phase.

“Council is aiming to have the works completed within a three week time frame from commencement,” said Mr Roff.
