MANSFIELD shone for the visit of one of the most powerful men in Australia, Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife Lady Lynne Cosgrove, last Tuesday.
In accepting his welcome to Mansfield Sir Peter paid tribute to the Mansfield community saying “this is a wonderful place, where legends intersect with reality”.
“The horsemen who populate the great poetry of Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson came from these hills,” he said.
Speaking before he sat down to lunch on the front lawns of the Mansfield Shire Council offices last Tuesday, Sir Peter congratulated the community as a whole, but paid special tribute to the youth of the town.
“I thank you for turning out – it’s a beautiful Victorian day and I don’t think there’s anywhere we would rather be,” he said.
Cathy McGowan (MHR, Indi) also addressed the invited guests at lunch, congratulating Mansfield on its next generation.
