MANSFIELD men’s bowlers were pitted against arch rivals Yarrawonga on Sunday at Wangaratta when they played off in the Ovens and Murray pennant A grade grand final.
For the fourth time this season the Mansfield side faced a rejuvenated Yarrawonga which had previously beaten the home side on only one occasion.
However, the venue at Wangaratta saw playing conditions tough going with both sides struggling to overcome the slippery surface (16 seconds) in gusty winds.
With all rinks going well Mansfield held a slender overall lead of 11 shots at the half time break and retained that margin with only four ends remaining.
But then a dramatic swing of momentum went the opposition’s way when Mansfield sensationally lost 18 shots and consequently the match by seven shots 103/96 to leave the Mansfield players in disbelief.
