Eagles start with promising wins

ON THE RUN: Jamie Sheahan shows he has not lost his touch as he breaks free from his Wangaratta Magpies opponent.

FOOTBALL season has snuck up on us again and the Eagles got into the spirit of the pre-season last Saturday with their first practice match against Wangaratta Magpies on home ground.

The seniors and the U18s both had good wins while the reserves played well although did not record a win.

Many new players were introduced to the Mansfield field along with some returning and familiar faces.

Among the players to hit the field were George Burbury, Jamie Sheahan (returned), George Gavalas, Mitchell Gleeson, Kim Blackburn, Elliott Christopher, James Octigan and Jim Hopgood (returned).

According to club president Quentin Thomson the seniors played very well and were very encouraging on the field.

“They played a good style of football – played a running style and it was pleasant to watch,” Thomson said.
