Right move for helipad service

MANSFIELD Shire Council has announced the emergency services helicopter operations currently using the Mansfield township helipad will be transferred to Walsh’s Airstrip from April 1.

Mayor, Marg Attley, said “we think it’s a good fit for all – council has worked closely with stakeholders including the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning to secure the new location”.

“There were early discussions on moving the landing site to Walsh’s Airstrip – there is no other motive behind the move,” Cr Attley said.

“There has been no decision on the saleyard (adjacent to the current helipad) – there are continuing discussions and conversations with people – there’s a lot of work to do.”

According to the council media release the move is designed to improve emergency operations.

Team manager Ambulance Victoria Mansfield, Greg Margetts, said the move was positive on balance as the present site is dusty and there are trees and other hazards nearby.
