AFTER a big weekend of cricket, Merton cricketers booked a place in the Benalla and District Cricket Association grand final.

Saturday saw the two top sides Delatite and Merton play off for a grand final spot, with the loser getting a second chance by playing on the Sunday against Benalla.

In Saturday’s game, Delatite won the toss and batted, making 7/137 off their 40 overs, with Glennon 45 and Marsden 20 the top scorers, while James Tehan was the dual wicket-taker with 2/23.

Merton found runs hard to come by due to some quality, tight bowling from Peter Scales with 3/8 off eight overs, ably supported by Marsden 2/22 and Maloney 2/0.

With a slow outfield and sharp fielding the run rate became too great, with Merton all out in the 39th over for 90, with Ziedins 37 the top scorer.

Merton had to regroup and again travel to Benalla Rose Gardens Reserve to tackle Benalla on the Sunday.
