IT was a case of bird against bird when the Mansfield Eagles took on the Whittlesea Eagles in a practice match on Saturday.
Beating their opponents by a clear number of goals, it is hoped the pre-season game is a further indicator that Mansfield is a force to be reckoned with in 2015, coming off the back of their win against the Wangaratta Magpies earlier in the month.
Just two weeks out from the official season opener and the Eagles are looking the goods, ready to come back from their bottom of the ladder result last year.
“It was a really good hit out game,” club president Quentin Thomson said of the match.
“We are really pleased with how things are going – we’re certainly looking forward to the real thing at Easter against Benalla.”
The first half of the game was physically contested, with all players being forced to work hard to get a clear handball or kick out of the melee.
