David has had a lifetime of education experiences

web_our people_pe_c3_20150501PEACEFUL SETTINGS: David Smithwick and wife Jackie in the outdoors that have imbued his life.

DAVID Smithwick has three elements coursing through his veins – education, the outdoors and the Footscray Football Club.

Born in 1950 in Footscray, David grew up living across the road from Whitten Oval.

He accepted the need to become the Western Bulldogs, but still watches Footscray in the VFL.

“My dad was the club dentist and growing up around there was mostly good,” he remembered.

“However, at age eight and a half I was sent to Wesley College.

“That necessitated a tram/train/tram excursion across Melbourne morning and afternoon.”

The young David enjoyed school life and had a keen interest in sport.

“I was there till year 12 and was pushed on academically, however, I became removed from my local age group,” he explained.

“So for the last couple of years I joined the local footy club, West Footscray.
