THE Mansfield Eagles made their first trip to the home of the GVFL, Deakin Reserve on Saturday in what can be described as trying conditions.
Despite the wind and rain, the Eagles returned home with the four competition points in their clash with the Shepparton Bears, defeating them by 35 points.
What was expected to be an easy second win on the trot for the Mansfield seniors, seemed at first to be a lost cause, with the first quarter score 29 to 3 against the boys from the High Country.
Such were the conditions, running against the weather saw the Eagles only score seven of their 79 points.
“We were faced with a four to five goal wind at the start,” senior coach Simon Dolling said after the game.
“Despite that, we were ordinary for the first 10 minutes, but after quarter time we controlled the game.
