MANSFIELD is to get a pedestrian crossing in the heart of its CBD.
VicRoads and Mansfield Shire confirmed last week that there will be a pedestrian crossing installed on High Street, near Marks IGA.
Although funding and design options are yet to be generated, both parties agreed the need for a formal crossing was long overdue.
Amer Tawfik, engineering and works manager at council, said traffic counters had confirmed the crossing was now a necessity.
“Council officers have undertaken a traffic study on the feasibility of a pedestrian crossing outside IGA – or close to – in Mansfield,” he said.
“The outcome concluded the number of pedestrians and vehicles warrant a formalised pedestrian crossing.
