Lantern parade a fun, colourful event

NO one would argue the inaugural event of the lantern parade last Saturday evening was anything but fun and quite engaging.

Timed to be as close to the winter solstice (June 22) as possible, the event coincided with a crescent moon accompanied by Venus and Jupiter – a spectacular backdrop.

Organised by Allison Walker, the concept was for people to make lanterns and carry them along the High Street median strip – possibly as a celebration that the longest, darkest days are almost over.

The lantern march was indeed a highlight for everyone, especially the children.
