Raids net thieves cigarettes and cash

POLICE believe a small gang of experienced thieves were responsible for two raids on businesses early Saturday morning getting away with almost $20,000 of cigarettes and cash.

The first business to be burgled was the Bonnie Doon Oasis store where thieves forced open the front door of the supermarket, removed a whole cabinet of cigarettes and attempted to steal cash from an in-store ATM machine.

The thieves also stole a cash register containing cash.

Detective Sergeant Shannon Murphy of Benalla CIU said although the thieves opened the ATM machine they failed to access the cash inside it.

“Some further damage was done when a drink stand was knocked over as well,” Det Sgt Murphy said.

At the Bonnie Doon store three men entered the premises and have been recorded on CCTV.
