A LUCKY local family headed to Europe this week not only to follow the Tour de France and local rider Simon Gerrans, but also to ride a few stages themselves.
The family (Louise Bretherton, Josh Hopwood, daughter Paris and Louise’s father Peter) will spend five weeks in a motorhome, travelling through France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.
They intend to be in Paris for Bastille Day and their appropriately named daughter Paris’ second birthday.
As part of their tour experience, they will try riding some of the stages for themselves, getting a sense of what it is like for the team riders.
They will try out stage seven (Livarot to Fougeres, 190km), stage eight (Rennes to Mûr de Bretagne, 179kms), stage nine (Team Time Trial, 28kms Vannes to Plumelec) and stage 20 (Modane Valfréjus to Alpe-d’Huez, 110km).
The family will then finish off the trip staying with Andrew Gerrans (Simon’s brother) in Girona before returning home.
