LOCAL clay target shooter Catherine Skinner has won two bronze medals in the opening days of the World University Games in Gwangju, Korea.
With fellow shooters Gemma Dunn and Indi Gladman the Australian team placed third behind Italy and Russia.
The next day, Skinner picked up a second bronze in the individual event, behind Silvana Stanco and Federica Caporsucio, both of Italy.
However, the two medals might not be the highlight of her games.
When Skinner arrived in Gwangju last Tuesday she was told the news of her selection as Australian team flagbearer, leading the Uniroos into the opening ceremony.
However, she had to keep the news a secret for an extra 40 hours following the postponement of the Australian village flag raising ceremony due to heavy rain.
“We have a fantastic team of athletes here so it was quite an honour to be picked out,” Skinner said.
