Anna off to study the world in India

ALAVIDA (Goodbye): Merrijig’s Anna Parsons is off to India for two years to study among people of the world.

‘NAMASTE’, Hindi for hello, is a word that Anna Parsons of Merrijig is going to hear very often over the next two years.

Anna has been selected to attend the United World College (UWC) program, attending Mahindra College in India.

“I have had UWC in my head for a while because both my uncles went to UWC, one to Singapore and one to Wales,” she said.

“So I have always known about it, but got interested – you could say obsessed – as I got nearer the age to go.”

Only six students in Australia received scholarships to attend UWC.

All have been allocated different colleges, so the UWC motto – UWC makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future – can be completed.
