Ailsa Street traffic restrictions trial now in place

ONE WAY EAST: Works at the western end of Ailsa Street and Highett Street were completed last week with one way access only from Highett Street eastwards along Ailsa Street.

SIGNAGE and barriers were put into place last week in Ailsa Street between Chenery and Highett streets to signal the start of the new one-way traffic trial along this section of road.

West bound traffic along Ailsa Street, heading towards Highett Street, will no longer be able to use this street as a thoroughfare, and must now turn right into Erril Street – next to the Mansfield Bowling Club, while vehicles exiting Erril Street at that point will only be able to turn left.

From that point to the Highett Street intersection, traffic becomes one-way east bound from Highett Street, past the Mansfield Kindergarten.

Vehicles exiting the Bank Place laneway onto Ailsa Street must also turn left only.

These new restrictions have been put into place to reduce congestion and improve the safety of the area around the kindergarten and the pedestrian access path to the new Mansfield Family and Children’s Centre behind the kindergarten.

The trial was developed after council and community consultation, and is scheduled to run for six months.
