AT a recent councillor forum, councillors and senior staff were treated to a three course meal; the same as those that are delivered to clients receiving home delivered meals, or Meals on Wheels as most people know it.
Each week day a team of 65 volunteers, supplemented by council’s community care workers and the Visiting Nursing Service, deliver nutritionally-balanced meals professionally prepared by Mansfield District Hospital’s kitchen staff.
Over 6000 meals were delivered in the 2014-2015 financial year.
“This service is an important part of council’s contribution to the health and wellbeing of our older community members and provides an affordable option for home delivered meals,” mayor Marg Attley said.
The service caters for a range of dietary requirements and offers a four weekly rotating menu cycle with three course meals consisting of soup, main, dessert and fruit juice.
This is part of the Home and Community Care (HACC) services provided by Mansfield Shire Council in partnership with the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments.
