STUDENT and sometime Bonnie Doon resident Sarah Conway-Klusik loves her music, and is making big strides into building her career around her passion.

Sarah, a 15-year-old guitarist and vocalist, was recently selected as one of 12 finalists in the 2015 Melbourne Music Bank Competition.

Entering the competition involved Sarah submitting online her original song “Trapped”, and from the many hundreds of entrants, she was successful in making the top 12, singing under her stage name of Sarah May.

The finalists will be performing in a couple of weeks outside the Melbourne Arts Centre, and the public will then be called upon to vote online to whittle down the 12 to a final four.

Those final four will then perform live at Melbourne’s State Theatre on October 8 in front of a panel of judges including Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi), as well as guest performances from Ella, and last year’s winner Heloise.

“Trapped” won Sarah the title of Best Upcoming Female Artist in the 2014 Snow Wave festival, a program where Melbourne songwriters mentor young musicians from regional Victoria, and was nominated Best Female vocal, Kool Schools in 2014.
