From Antarctic adventurer to Timbertop campus stalwart

DOUGLAS Braithwaite is about to put his feet up after a long career as head of maintenance at Geelong’s Timbertop campus.

Building and maintenance were not where he thought his future would lie when he was at school.

Born in East Brunswick in 1954, he attended Greythorn High, where his aspirations were to become either a pilot or a vet.

“I had all those high ideals,” he laughed.

Instead, he did a Diploma of Building at RMIT.

His connection with the Mansfield area began around 1975, when he started coming up here to help out a friend who was building a cottage.
