MORE than $320,000 has been donated and bequeathed to Mansfield District Hospital in the last 12 months.

Such generosity, revealed at last week’s Mansfield District Hospital Auxiliary annual general meeting, has overwhelmed the hospital’s new chief executive officer, Marianne Warren.

“I have had experience with fundraising in much larger towns, and they don’t come near Mansfield,” Ms Warren told the meeting.

“It is a phenomenally generous town,” she said, confirming that in the 2014/2015 financial year, donations and bequests to the hospital amounted to $321,246.

Ms Warren, along with hospital board chairperson Rowan Swaney, congratulated the members of the auxiliary for their fundraising prowess, and Mr Swaney placed particular emphasis on their role in the town.

“The auxiliary is so important, not just to the hospital, but also to the town,” he said.
