Fricke throttles towards speedway world cup final

BIG TIME TASTE: Max Fricke in the pits during practice last Friday at Etihad Stadium for the Speedway Grand Prix.

TRIPLE under-21 Australian speedway champion Max Fricke said he’ll savour the experience of his first-ever home Speedway Grand Prix that took place at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium on Saturday night, October 24.

The 19-year-old from Mansfield was really impressed by the 25,000-strong crowd that witnessed world champion Tai Woffinden from the United Kingdom win his second Grand Prix title.

“I enjoyed every minute of it,” Max, who was a reserve rider for the DON Smallgoods FIM Australian Speedway Grand Prix, said.

“Stadiums in Poland can hold 15,000 but not too many are as big as Etihad Stadium and to be in front of your home crowd made it even better,” Max said.

“To walk out on the stadium with all the fans and air horns and everything going off was a pretty awesome feeling.

“There’s not a lot you can compare it to,” he added.
